Dakelh contains 45 sounds and does not have P, R, F, V, Q or X. The closest to Q is Kw as in Kwun meaning Fire (consider historical "justifiable arson").
Dakelh laws, protocols, languages, history and culture have been passed on orally. Governance of important events and exchanges occurred at the balhats (feast hall) (consider potlach ban).
In some communities, guests witness the use of EAGLE DOWN at the balhats as a sign of peace and to finalize the business, writing it into memory and permanence in oral history (consider orality).
This EAGLE QUILL represents the introduction of the printed word, respecting the spaces between Western and Indigenous knowledge and governance systems (consider self-determination).
